Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib was fined 15% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday. Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel penalizes Naib for “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”
Captain Rashid Khan’s bowling denied Tashinga Musekiwa’s LBW plea in Zimbabwe’s 11th over. Gulbadin Naib protested by bending in a sham prayer and seeking a review despite DRS being unavailable. First offense in 24 months, the former Afghanistan captain received a fine and demerit point.
Gulbadin Naib accepted Match Referee Andy Pycroft’s punishment. A formal hearing was unnecessary. Zimbabwe and Afghanistan are level at 1-1 heading into Saturday’s showdown at the Harare Sports Club.
