Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has termed Pakistan as the favorites to win ICC Champions Trophy 2025 simply because it comes in their yard. Gavaskar states that a home turf is so handy, more often than not even in such championships where conditions cannot get any ideal to favor the same home team.
This is a mega event scheduled to be staged between February 19 and March 9, 2025, which the hosts will share between Pakistan and the UAE. According to Gavaskar, this home advantage could be the turning point as a number of matches are likely to be played in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. He also pointed out that defeating a team on their home soil was very difficult, which might prove an advantage for Pakistan.
Gavaskar admitted India has also been on fire during the 2023 ODI World Cup despite their final defeat. “India lost the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 but they have done pretty well and took ten matches consecutively, he pointed out. That really explains how tough the game is when the environment does not go so well for Indians.
With the exception of Pakistan, all the participating teams have declared their squads till now, and that also on the day when Gavaskar’s remarks were printed in papers.
