Fresh injury concerns for Australia before T20 World Cup
Australia is monitoring two key players’ injuries three months before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. Last week, left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux injured her ribs after being smacked in the chest by a ball during batting. After eight weeks out, Molineux will have little time to heal before Australia’s first T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Sylhet on October 4.
Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Ash Gardner, and Alana King will headline Australia’s spin bowling attack at the T20 World Cup. Grace Harris, a powerful all-rounder, has dropped out of England’s Hundred T20 competition because to a calf injury. Molineux helped Australia win the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups, while Harris helped them win the latest in South Africa last year.
Cricket Australia briefly addressed the injuries. “Molineux suffered an acute rib fracture after being struck by a ball in the chest while batting last week,” a report said. Harris’ leg injury worsened throughout The Hundred and season training. Her gradual return to play is underway.” Australia is in T20 World Cup Group A with India, NZ, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
