England wicketkeeper Jordan Cox will miss the three-test series against New Zealand after breaking his thumb in a net session in Queenstown during a tour match.
As backup for Jamie Smith, who is missing the tour to have his first child, Cox was scheduled to make his test debut in the series opener in Christchurch on Thursday.
My heart aches for Jordan. Since we arrived in New Zealand, he has been improving with the bat and gloves “Brendon McCullum said in a team statement on Monday.
“Sport causes these problems, regrettably. Get around and care for him. He’s resilient, and his moment will come.”
The squad claimed Cox will be replaced “in due course” after Ollie Pope grabbed the gloves for Sunday’s second and final day of the tour match against the New Zealand Prime Minister’s XI.
