England score best innings total against Pakistan

The visiting team has now posted the highest ever innings total against Pakistan by any team as England went past 800 runs in the fourth day of the first Test match against Pakistan in Multan. This was the second time in the history of cricket that any team scored more than 700 runs in a Test match against Pakistan.

Earlier, West Indies scored 790-3 against the Men in Green in 1958. A team, for the first time in this millennium and only fourth time in cricket Test history, has managed to score 800 runs.

The former captain received a reprieve on 186 when Babar Azam let the simplest of catches slip through his fingers at mid-wicket.

He then made most of the reprieve to raise his sixth double century with a single. Kholi celebrated the milestone by kissing the badge on the helmet. In reaching the milestone, Root went past Cook again with only Wally Hammond ahead of him in England’s list with seven double tons.
