Dawid Malan believes Pakistan’s failed catches helped England win

Dawid Malan scored the decisive century in the third and final Twenty20 International between Pakistan and England. He believes that dropped catches by Pakistan were the deciding factor in England’s ability to post a large total.

A 35-year-old player spoke exclusively to reporters after England’s 67-run victory in the seventh T20I. He explained that, upon scouting the pitch, they recognized that 160 or 170 runs wouldn’t be enough and thus decided to take some risks. In the course of their innings, Pakistan misplaced three catches.

Malan was let go not once but twice: first at number 29 (from number 19) and then again at number 62 (from number 39). He then went on to make a perfect 78 on 47 balls. With Harry Brook, who was dropped when he was 24 of 17, the pair put on 108 runs in 61 overs for the third wicket.

Malan was among the first to respond positively when asked if he would be interested in traveling to Pakistan to see the 2017 PSL final. The England cricketer reflected on the changes in Pakistan since the PSL final in Lahore, saying he is pleased to have contributed to the revival of cricket in the country. Malan also spoke highly of the fans in Karachi and Lahore, noting that it was “unbelievable” to play in front of such enthusiastic audiences.

“I thought the wicket was really good. I thought the first 12 and 14 balls came on beautifully in ers. The ball came on few chances. We had a few dropped catches that went our way, they created a partnership for us, and we were able to have bat deep without losing any wickets,” Malan said while talking for segment Game Changer.
