Champions Trophy Jersey Controversy: BCCI Responds

On Wednesday, the BCCI stated that it will obey the International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s Champions Trophy criteria, including wearing the official emblem.

In an exclusive interview with an Indian cricket news website, newly appointed BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the Indian team’s shirt will have the tournament’s emblem, Pakistan’s name.

“We will follow ICC guidelines,” stated Saikia.

“We will follow ICC orders,” he said.

Indian media reported earlier this week that the BCCI has refused to allow the Indian squad to wear Champions Trophy 2025 jerseys with Pakistan’s name.

After media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) slammed BCCI for bringing politics into sports. The cricket board also hoped the ICC would support the host nation.

“BCCI politicizes cricket, which is bad for the game. Refused to visit Pakistan. They do not want their captain to attend the opening ceremony in Pakistan, and reports say they do not want Pakistan’s name on their shirt.”

“We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and will support Pakistan,” he said.

Later, ICC authorities stated that all competing teams must display the tournament’s official insignia on their shirts, including the host nation’s name.

“Every team must put the tournament logo on their jerseys. “All teams must follow this rule,” an ICC insider said.

From February 19 to March 9, the eight-team tournament, with 15 matches, will take place in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan and Dubai.

Pakistan will play New Zealand in the curtain-raiser on February 19 in Karachi, while Pakistan and India will play their blockbuster match in Dubai on February 23. Pakistan is the only team of the eight participating nations to not reveal their squad for the competition.
