After being named captain for the first test of a five-test series against Australia, India’s Jasprit Bumrah has taken advantage. Bumrah was promoted to vice-captain before India’s 3-0 home series loss to New Zealand and will lead India in Perth with Rohit Sharma on vacation after his second child.
Bumrah, a calm Bumrah, said on Thursday he aimed to add his own approach to the role following the regular captain’s praise of his game knowledge. I enjoy accountability. “I’ve wanted the hard job since childhood,” the 30-year-old told reporters before the test.
“You always want to be involved. You seek challenges.
“This is one too. I face a new challenge. I always want to add more, even with Rohit or Virat (Kohli).
Copying others is forbidden. Both are successful and have achieved much… My instincts have always guided my cricket.” Before the second test, Rohit should be captain again. The modern game rarely has pace bowling captains, but Bumrah felt his opposing counterpart, Pat Cummins, excelled.
“Pat did great. He’s successful. “There are many models to follow,” he said.
“You can also draw from history. India has had many successful players, notably Kapil Dev.
“Hopefully (it’s the) start of a new tradition and many more players will follow.”
Bumrah stated the players had recovered from their New Zealand loss and were focused on the series. We always trust our team when we play and in any situation. We are well-prepared, “they added.
“We’re focusing on mental activation now. I hope things work out.”
India, who play tests in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, has won four straight home and away against Australia.
