Basit Ali suggests Sarfaraz as CT 2025 mentor?

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has urged the PCB to designate former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed as the team’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 consultant. Basit recommended Sarfaraz, who guided Pakistan to their first Champions Trophy win in 2017, as coach.

The 54-year-old highlighted the former captain’s experience versus India. Basit said on YouTube, “Afghanistan appointed Younis Khan as a mentor, which is great. Pakistanis, including the board, appear sleepy. Face India with Sarfaraz Ahmed, a Champions Trophy winner.

“In this match, Sarfaraz’s advice will be invaluable. He handles pressure well and won the trophy against them. He claimed he wouldn’t recommend anyone else.

He also criticised the tournament’s venue, indicating India may struggle in Dubai, where all their matches are planned.

India has had bad luck in Dubai. If their matches were in Sri Lanka instead of Dubai, they might be finalists. But Dubai has always been a problem,” he said. Pakistan and the UAE will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 19.

Eight teams will compete in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan and Dubai in the UAE. On February 19, defending champions Pakistan will play New Zealand in Karachi under wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in his debut ICC captaincy.

The much-anticipated Pakistan-India match occurs on February 23 in Dubai. Eight teams are split into two groups:

Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand and Bangladesh

Group B: Afghanistan, South Africa, England and Australia
