Barcelona’s Ter Stegen Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

After ripping his patella tendon, Marc-Andre ter Stegen had successful right knee surgery. Barcelona announced it Monday. Injury forced the 32-year-old German goalkeeper to miss Barcelona’s 5-1 triumph against Villarreal. His absence is expected to last eight months.

Barcelona claims Dr. Joan Carles Monllau performed the procedure at Barcelona Hospital under the club’s medical supervision. Ter Stegen tumbled hard catching a ball before halftime. His suffering was evident when he was carried off the field.

He won’t play, thus Inaki Pena starts in goal. Ter Stegen played 17 games last year when not playing. Pena, a ten-year La Masia player, started well but conceded 31 goals in 15 games. Next month, the club will play Real Madrid in LaLiga and Bayern Munich in Champions League. Hope Pena stays strong!
