Babar Azam scores second-most T20 hundred

Pakistan captain Babar Azam scored the 10th century of his T20 career on Monday at the Lanka Premier League (LPL), becoming only the second player in history to do so after West Indian legend Chris Gayle. Gayle, who holds the record for the highest individual score (175* versus Pune Warriors, IPL 2013), leads the list with 22 tons in 463 games. The Pakistan captain has three international T20 hundreds, two in the Vitality Blast and one in the National T20 Cup for Somerset and Central Punjab, respectively.

Babar also got a hundred for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and another against Leicestershire on tour. Also, Babar increased his T20 century tally to ten with his first triple-digit score at the LPL and became the tournament’s fourth centurion. Furthermore, the 28-year-old star is now the first Asian cricketer to have scored ten T20 hundred. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is the second Asian after Babar to have eight T20 hundred.

At a strike rate 176.2, the prolific batter struck a magnificent hundred for Colombo Strikers against the Gale Gladiators. His time on the field was highlighted by stunning cover drives, eight boundaries, and five maximums. Babar shared a 111-run partnership with Pathum Nissanka, assisting the Strikers to a seven-wicket victory over the Gladiators as one of the two opening batters.

Babar is playing in the LPL for the first time, taking advantage of the opportunity to hone his skills ahead of significant tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup. He stated that the event would help him adapt to diverse situations in Asia.
