Babar Azam becomes best ODI run scorer after 90 innings

Babar Azam, captain of the Pakistani cricket team, has scored more runs in ODIs (one-day internationals) than any other player in history. It is after 90 innings, surpassing Hashim Amla of South Africa. After Sunday’s third one-day international against the Netherlands, Babar’s total ODI runs stood at 4,664. Also 108 more than Amla’s 4,556 at the same point in his ODI career. The Pakistani captain has scored 17 hundreds in ODIs, the second-highest total after 90 innings after only Amla.

Between his 29th and 84th innings, Amla had a higher aggregate score than Babar, but Babar overtook him in the final two innings of his career. Amla led Babar by 7 runs in the list of aggregate runs after 87 innings going into the opening match of the Pakistan vs. Netherlands series, but Babar scored a half-century to retake the lead. During the three-match ODI series against the Netherlands, Babar struck three straight half-centuries. Babar had not gone without a century in a bilateral ODI series since January of this year. In January of 2019, Pakistan played five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) while touring South Africa.
