Babar Azam beats Virat Kohli to 1,000 ODI runs
In the 50-over format, Pakistan’s Babar Azam scored 1,000 runs faster than any other skipper, surpassing India’s Virat Kohli. As a result of his commanding century in Pakistan’s first One-Day International match against the West Indies on Wednesday. Babar Azam became the first player in Pakistani history to score the milestone of one thousand runs. The best one-day international batsman in the world reached the milestone in only 13 innings.
AB De Villiers of South Africa (in 20 games) and Kane Williamson of New Zealand have already accumulated 1,000 runs as captain. At the same time, Virat Kohli reached the milestone in his 17th innings of captaincy (22 matches). In the history of one-day internationals, Babar is the only player to have ever scored a century in each of the series’ first three games. The batsman broke the record for the most runs scored by a single player in a one-day international in April of the previous year. He made two centuries in a row in the second and third one-day internationals played at home versus West Indies. Babar Azam is now in top place in both the T20 International and One Day International rankings for batters.
