Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi Drop in Test Rankings

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Afridi have slipped down in the latest Test rankings issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

England star Joe Root has further strengthened his standing as one of the best of all time, reaching a new career-high rating on the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings.

Root made his highest Test score when contributing 262 during England’s empathic victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Multan and went further clear at the top of the rankings for Test batters as a result as his rating increased to an aggregate of 932 points.

Babar Azam, however, released by the Pakistan squad against England, dropped one place to 12th in the rankings. Batter Mohammad Rizwan jumped one place to seventh position in the latest batting rankings.

Shaheen Afridi dropped four places down to 14th position in the Test bowlers’ ranking, and Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah didn’t lose the top place in the rankings. Of the others to make notable progress in Wednesday’s rankings update, England duo Gus Atkinson, up three places to 23rd, and Jack Leach, up nine spots to 28th, move up the latest rankings for Test bowlers after being amongst the wickets against Pakistan, while Root climbs a rung to third on the updated rankings for Test all-rounders.
