Australia loses pacer for UK white-ball trip next month
In The Hundred, left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson had a side strain and is out. Johnson made his international debut in August 2023 and has played six times. His six T20I scalps average 26.66. Mitchell Starc was rested for the T20I part of the tour, so the left-arm speedster was anticipated to fill in. Cricket Australia stated Johnson will travel home for assessment rehabilitation before the Australian summer.
Bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott, also in The Hundred, will replace Johnson. Abbott, who was originally scheduled for only the ODI phase of the tour, has played 15 T20Is, taking 15 wickets at 26.60. Fast bowlers Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, and Nathan Ellis will be supported by all-rounders Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Aaron Hardie. Australia’s UK tour begins with a three-match T20I series against Scotland from September 4-7. After a three-match T20I series in England, the team will play five ODIs.
