In the day-night second Test, Australia defeated India by 10 wickets to tie the five-match series 1-1 on Sunday. After bowling out India for 175 in their second innings, Australia won the first session on day three to maintain their perfect pink-ball record at Adelaide Oval. Skipper Pat Cummins led by example, claiming 5-57 to help Australia recover from their comprehensive loss in Perth.
Mitchell Starc dismissed Rishabh Pant for 28 in the opening over of the day, ending India’s limited chances of preserving the Test at 128-5. India’s innings loss was averted by Nitish Kumar Reddy’s courageous 42, but Cummins’ bouncer destroyed the visitors’ lower order, finishing the Test.
Australia won the match in 20 balls and improved to 8-0 in day-night Tests at the venue. Opening partner Nathan McSweeney watched Usman Khawaja score the winning run in the shortest Test between the teams.
“Great week. We were far from our ideal team in Perth, but this is back to our style “said Cummins.
“I wasn’t upset with my Perth bowling. We got several wickets and had a fantastic rhythm this week.”
Travis Head was named player of the match for his 140 in the first innings, which helped Australia win. Despite having Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill back, India only lasted 81 overs.
“A disappointing week for us,” Rohit said after missing the first Test to care for his newborn kid in Mumbai.
We didn’t play well enough to win. Australia outperformed us.
“There were times when we could have grabbed the opportunity but failed, which cost us the game,” he said.
Rohit scored three and six in his new middle-order role after KL Rahul took the starting spot. Brisbane hosts the third Test on December 14.
