Due to Binura Fernando’s hamstring issue, the team has decided to add bowler Asitha Fernando to their Twenty20 World Cup roster. On Tuesday, Sri Lanka lost to Australia by seven wickets.
Asitha Fernando joins Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad
Binura Fernando was injured in the first over during the game and had to leave the field. The tournament’s Event Technical Committee announced on Thursday that “(Asitha) will go out from Sri Lanka and join the rest of the squad in Australia.”
Asitha Fernando has made three appearances in Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka and has accumulated two wickets in this format. Due to an injury to left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka, the team brought in Binura Fernando earlier this month.
Sri Lanka will play New Zealand on Saturday. They are currently in second place in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage.
