Arshad Nadeem’s sleep is shattered by love

On Monday, Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem said he couldn’t sleep seeing people embrace him after winning an Olympic gold medal. Nadeem defeated defending champion and Indian rival Neeraj Chopra in the javelin on August 8 to win the country’s first gold medal since 1984 and 1992. His 92.97-meter throw was an Olympic record. After receiving adoration, the javelin thrower claimed he was spending his time to meet them because they “deserve it”.Geo News reported that the 27-year-old thanked everyone for their support and grand welcome home.

He remarked, “When I reached my village, I was extremely delighted upon seeing the masses from the nearby villages gathered [for me]”. Nadeem claims he won several 2012 competitions. In 2016, he played his first international event and saw his hard work pay off on August 8, 2024. He said he worked hard for the Paris Olympics after the Tokyo Olympics [2020]. Recalling the Olympic final, he felt terrific running up and wanted to throw the javelin as far as possible in the second attempt to avoid pressure in the third.

“If the second throw hadn’t landed [far], I would have been under pressure in the third,” he remarked. In addition, he tried to avoid injuries. The Olympian told Geo News he was injured after surgery. The Mian Channu athlete had elbow surgery in 2022 and knee surgery a few months before the Paris Olympics. He complimented his coach and doctor for his training and rehab. Nadeem asked the country to pray for his recovery and promised more medals for Pakistan next time.
