Arshad Nadeem to vie for javelin throw qualification today
On Tuesday, Pakistan’s top medal contender Arshad Nadeem will compete in the Paris Olympics’ javelin throw qualification round. The Olympics confirmed Nadeem’s Group B placement with India’s gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Group B also includes World No. 5 Edis Matusevicius, World No. 6 Anderson Peters, and Germany’s Max Dehning, who has thrown over 90 metres this year. The Group B action begins at 2:50pm PST with Arshad throwing fifth. An competitor must throw 84 metres to qualify for the medal round.
Twelve athletes advance to the finals. If 12 participants cannot reach 84 metres, the best throwers will qualify for the medal round. Six of Pakistan’s seven athletes are out of the games. This 27-year-old is Pakistan’s last and best Olympic medal hope. Nadeem earned silver in the World Championship last year. He became the first Pakistani athlete to win gold at the Commonwealth Games since 1962 with a 90.18m throw in 2022.
