Arshad Nadeem receives Rs100m payment, ‘PAK 92.97’ Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif gave Olympian gold medallist Arshad Nadeem a Rs100 million cheque and a Honda Civic key with the number plate “PAK 92.97” on Tuesday to honour the national hero. The Punjab chief minister presented the sportsman with the car and Rs100 million from the Punjab government at his home village in Mian Channu. Additionally, she awarded Nadeem’s coach Salman Iqbal Butt a Rs5 million cheque and praised him for preparing the athlete.

Pakistan’s 40-year gold medal drought ended on August 8 as the javelin superstar achieved a world Olympic record of 92.97 meters. At the Olympian’s home, Maryam hugged his mother Razia Parveen and congratulated her on her son’s lifetime achievement. The CM then sat down with the mother and talked longer. While Nadeem recalled his Olympic competition, his family took selfies and pictures with Maryam. Punjab’s CM stated he brought unprecedented happiness to the nation.

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, Special Assistant to CM Zeeshan Malik, MPA Sania Ashiq, and others attended. At the Mian Channu Tableeghi Markaz, Nadeem met famous scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel and received Rs0.5 million.
