Afridi updates on Saim Ayub’s CT 2025 status?

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi announced that teenage batting talent Saim Ayub will miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a fractured ankle. In a recent interview, Afridi discussed Ayub’s fitness issues and recuperation.

“I spoke to Saim Ayub last night. He told me he needs three weeks before therapy can begin, Afridi said.

I told him to take his time. Even minor injuries might become chronic if not properly healed. He advised taking your time healing because you’re young and have a lot of cricket ahead. After making his international debut against Afghanistan in March 2023, the 22-year-old has been a prominent player for Pakistan.

Afridi updates on Saim Ayub's CT 2025 status?

He has three hundreds and a half-century in nine ODI matches, including his Player of the Series win against South Africa last year, where he scored two centuries in a 3-0 whitewash. His right ankle was broken on the first day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa, halting his development.

His six-week injury will keep him out of Pakistan’s home Test series against the West Indies and a tri-nation series with New Zealand and South Africa. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dispatched Ayub to London for specialised therapy under assistant coach Azhar Mahmood to speed his recuperation.

The PCB will finalise the Champions Trophy team on February 11 ahead of the tournament’s February 19 start in Pakistan. Ayub’s recovery is being cautiously monitored. The board has reportedly decided not to release a provisional team and instead submit the final list to the ICC.
